I had to put my dog down last week because of a brain tumor :( She was a golden retriever mixed with something else and she shed constantly. It was so hard to deal with. I'm looking for a dog that sheds less than my old dog. I'm probably going to rescue a dog from a shelter. My only issue is that my mother won't let me get another dog that sheds a lot. Any recommendations for a good dog breed that doesn't shed much?

    • I am very sorry about your dog.Well, there are a lot of dogs that shed less then goldens. Basically, anything with short hair will be good. Personally, I love bully breeds. They do shed, but it is not that much, I can live with that. Go to a shelter, and take a look at the dogs there and I am sure that you will find one that has short hair. Good luck.

    • Why does everyone think shorthair dogs don't shed much. Most shorthair dogs, shed just as much as Golden Retriever does.Fluffy, wirey coat, and curly coated breeds are the way to go if you want light, or low shedding.Affenpinscher Brussels Griffon Chinese Crested-Hairless HavaneseItalian Greyhound MaltesePoodleShih Tzu Silky Terrier Yorkshire TerrierAiredale TerrierAustralian TerrierBedlington TerrierBorder Terrier Cairn TerrierDandie Dinmont Terrier Glen of Imaal Terrier Irish Terrier Kerry Blue TerrierLakeland TerrierMiniature Schnauzer Norfolk TerrierNorwich Terrier Scottish Terrier Sealyham Terrier Soft Coated Wheaten TerrierWelsh Terrier West HighlandWhite Terrier Wire Fox Terrier Black Russian TerrierGiant SchnauzerKomondorPortuguese Water DogStandard SchnauzerBasenjigreyhoundIrish Water SpanielWirehaired Pointing GriffonBichon FriseLöwchenPoodleTibetan Terrier Cesky Terrier Xoloitzcuintli

    • im sorry to hear of your loss unfortunatly all dogs shed hair but there are some breeds that shed little to no hair golden retrievers shed quite alot of hair ive groomed quite alot of them and they never seem to stop moulting.however i do know some dog breeds that shed little to no hair poodles are probably the most popular dog that do not shed as much hair i have found a list for you on the internetill post the link below hope this helps and that you will be very happy with your new dog

    • I wouldn't necessarily agree all short hair doesn't shed. I have three great danes and an Old English Bulldogge of which all do shed. Their hair is just easier to clean up then long hair I feel. I think the only way your going to get a dog that doesn't shed is if you go with a toy breed like a poodle or bison frise.

    • Adopt a greyhound!! They are AWESOME!Although Greyhounds do shed, we have found that they seem to shed very little. A rubdown with a damp rag or dog brush will keep the shedding down to a minimum. Greyhounds do not seem to have a "doggy" odor that some breeds do. Because of the lack of odor and their short hair, Greyhounds tend to be better tolerated by people with allergies.

    • i just had to do the exact same thing with my golden :[ here's a GREAT alternative : goldendoodlestheyre a mix of golden retr. and poodles and shed little to not at all.they have the big beautiful brown eyes like the goldens with a soft curly/wavy coat as the poodle. Definitely look into that they live longer that goldens and are less prone to tumors
