    • Why would you buy that much food & then open it all? Anyways, take it back to the store & see if they will let you exchange. I have exchanged opened bags of cat food before at Wal-mart.

    • It wont kill him. We gave my 2 German Shepard's puppy food and they are 6 and 7, so I don't think it will harm him. The types of food, I don't think, have anything "bad" for a younger dog, it may just have less fat or something since senior dogs don't move around as much. Try it. If you really don't want to chance it, call your local vet.

    • Pedigree is a horrible dog food. . . Try better dog foods like Orijen or Caidae or Taste of the Wild, ETC..Anyways, I guess it won't "hurt" him since it's senior. But watch out for food poisoning symptoms: http://www.dogsobediencetraining.com/food/bad/poisoning.htm

    • Senior formulas usually just have less calories per cup and more glucosamine & chondroitin for joints. I would feed them more than you normally do. Check the back of the regular bag and compare it to the amount of calories in the senior to decide how much the difference is.You should also try switching to a better food. Pedigree is full of fillers like corn, wheat, & soy which isn't what a dog should be eating much of. A good 'all natural' food might cost a bit more per bag but in the long run you save money because you feed them much less of it per feeding. Some good ones are Taste of the Wild, Innova, EVO, Orijen, Natural Balance.

    • Senior dog food typically has a higher plane of nutrition and greater digestibility, because GI tract function decreases with age. The level of fat will also be higher. You may want to compare this food to the normal food to see if you need to feed a little less of the new food. Feeding the same amount of a more calorically dense food is feeding more calories, which can cause your dog to gain weight. Other than that, your dog should face no ill effects.Remember to mix the new food in with the old to gently switch him over. 25% new 75% old the first week, 50% new 50% old the second, 75% new 25% old the third, then all new the fourth week. If you don't have enough to do this for a whole week, then at least do three days for each step.Lastly, Purina is not a very good food. You could do a lot worse (such as feeding Old Roy or a grocery store brand), but it still is not very good quality. The ingredients that they use are of a lower quality, and a lot of times they will use less-digestible plant proteins than the more available animal proteins. Your dog may do much better on a better food. EVO, Royal Canin, Hill's, and Candidae are all good (though rather expensive) choices. Personally, I like Nutro. The cost is in-between, but it's a readily digestible, rather palatable food.A good guideline for adult dog foods is minimum 18-20% protein, minimum 10% fat, and maximum 5-10% fiber. These will be listed on the back of the back, under the heading "Guaranteed Analysis". However, you know your dog best, so get what works for you.

    • Pedigree is a low quality dog food... I want to give you some info on dog foods to keep your beloved pet healthy and happy.I have researched this in depth since my poor dog died of kidney failure due to poor quality dog food!! (this is the only reason I answer these questions … to try and save a dogs life or at least to not let him/her suffer because of bad food)Fromm Dog Food is Great for dogs and cats …http://www.frommfamily.com/ $42- $45 per 30 lb bagNO fillers….some good quality grains….NO corn….gluten or by-products or wheatALL human grade food….fruits…veggies and probiotics!! WHOLE fruits and veggies!!!! Just like the kind we get at our grocery stores!check it out you wont regret it ! FROMM 4 STAR product line is the best!!!!!!! FROMM is a 100% holistic dog food. FROMM also has a grain-free option called surf & turfTOTWhttp://www.tasteofthewildpetfood.com/ … has a high protein content (not recommeded for non athletic dogs) Some TOTW choices have lesser amounts of protein.Taste of the Wild contains Ethoxyquin which is a toxic fish preservative. (TOTW says that the cooking process kills all of it but it scared me away from their product)around $42 for a 30 lb bag .... its the cheapest 6 star food ..http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/ lots of great dog food choices on this site !!(keep in mind this site rates on high protein and grain free foods)Here are the best of the best:Fromm, Blue Buffalo, Canidae, Halo, Holistic Blend, Newmans Own Oranics, Wellness, (all the above mentioned foods have " ALL LIFE STAGES" formulas)http://www.best-dog-food-guide.com/http://www.petfoodratings.net/dogs.htmlhttp://www.dogfoodscoop.com/Orijen and Welness are great but it is $60 - $80 for a 30 lb bag… high protein as well ..not good for non athletic dogs Orijen is WAY to high in protein for a non working/non-agility dog ..Fromm Is what my puppy gets it has a lower protein % and great ingredients! 5 outta 6 stars due to lower protein (but most dogs should not have high protein levels …. It makes their kidneys work overtime for no reason)You can get it online and if you go to the website you can find stores near you .. they wont be at walmarts and the like... they are in feed stores .. Agway..tractor supply stores etcIF your dog is not going to be a hard working/agility dog all this high protein can do more harm than good in the long run,,, you wont notice it now but it can take its toll on a dogs kidneys as it ages.http://4healthdogfood.tripod.com/ …there is also a brand called 4health at the tractor supply store.. it is only $30 for a 35 lb bag.. and it seems to be of good quality. (not as good as the foods mentioned above but it good for the price if you are on a tight budget.)It is very close in ingredients to the more expensive brandsalso of you go to http://www.tractorsupply.com you can get a printable $5 off coupon!!(they have Blue Buffalo, TOTW and 4Health)
