    • Because children are children. They aren't perfect, either. Yes, you can tell a child something, teach them right from wrong. They aren't (usually) stupid. But they forget, they get excited, they screw up. It's not possible to be around your kid and your dog 100% of the time they are together--doesn't anyone ever have to use the bathroom or get a drink of water? Kids screw up. So if they do screw up with a dog that doesn't have patience, a bite will occur. I think people need to have some level of trust with the family pet, that they will walk away or control themselves if they're annoyed. Because just one too-enthusiastic game can lead to a severe bite, depending on the dog, and it's hard to assign blame. Families aren't controlled environments without variables.
