Which small breed of dog is a good rat catcher?

Rats and mice and sometimes snakes can be a nuisance in a country home. One deterrent is to have a dog that is sensitive to the presence of such pests when in the house and fearless in terms of getting rid of them. Which are the good breeds of dogs for that purpose?What about a duchsund?

Westies!( West Highland terrier) They can smell a rat from far away. They are adorable but come in one color, cream-ish white. They are sturdy, and if they ever get stuck in hole somewhere, you can pull on their tails, it doesn't hurt the dog unless the spot that it's stuck is very very tight(like a sewage pipe), you may need a fireman's help for that.
