Is there a vet who can give me info on dog blood types?

I was trying to work something out with a friend as we're rhesus negative blood types which means the part of the gene that links us to monkeys has been removed and we're universal blood donors. We were trying to work out if other animals have a parts removed that links them to their ancestors. I saw DEA negative dogs are universal donors. I can't work out of the DEA factor is the same as rhesus, where it links them to their ancestors or is it something different? If it's the same, would have have been removed by all the years of selective breeding?
