      I have a 9year old sharpei the last 20 days he had trouble standing up and walking,although the last 3-4 days he was going better,without this affecting his appetite and mood...We had blood tests today and vet said that the dog has kidney failure....I have teh results here so you can tell me what we can do....ALKP 81 U/LALT 34 U/LBUN 87 mg/dL (this one and crea are high)CREA 8.4 mg/dLGLU 121 mg/dLTP 7.4 g/dLHCT 18.3% (HCT and BHG are low)HGB 6.4 g/dLMCHC 35 g/dLWBC 10.2 X10 s the 9/LGRANS 6.1 x10 s the 9/LI just want to know how bad he is cause I wasn't at the vet and my brother won't say much...The vet said we can try a therapy and see how it goes...also we shouldn't give him any more meatPLEASE IF ANY VET IS READING THIS HELP.....I also need to add that after talking with some friends they told me that this vet isn't one to trust,so we're taking him to another one in the next few days....Still blood tests are what they are right?I'm so confused please help!

    • I am really sorry but blood tests should be pretty conclusive. I do not want you to get false hope here, but it depends how far this has gone and how much damage, but kidneys are treatable. Yes you can go onto the special kidney food (K/D) and I sincerely hope that this buys you a bit more time.I have just relayed those results to a vet friend. Not sure when he'll see them but I will get back to you when he does.

    • This bichon frise site has normal ranges for bloodwork numbers. Your dog appears anemic as well as having damaged kidneys. But labwork can be screwed up. Get it repeated through a different vet.Rather than shop various general practitioners, I would take your dog to a well regarded specialist in your area. We were able to keep our dog's kidney failure under control for a year and a half before another disease threatened his life.
