    • African Pygmy Hogs are cute, but they do require some quite specific care. And remember, they're HEDGEHOGS, that means SPINES, they aren't cuddly! One thing that isn't in the glossy omgcute brochure, is the smell. They do have very very pungent poopsies and this must be cleaned once or twice a day to avoid becoming unbearable. They eat meaty foods, so their poopsies are as stinky as cat and dog poops. I think it's generally recommended they have at least a 3-4ft cage to roam about in. Those ones meant for rabbits/guineas (but generally too small for either!) as long as the bars are not too far apart. These seem quite informative:http://www.simplyexotichedgehogs.co.uk/id3.htmlhttp://www.angelfire.com/wa2/comemeetmyfamily/hedgehogmedicalissues.htmlAs for the 10year old, as long as her parents agree and are able to supervise the majority of the care and health of the animal, and the 10 year old herself is a responsible animal lover, then there is no reason she can't keep one.

    • I think a hedgehog is a great pet. I got one when i was 11. He didn't stink to bad. I would recommend a c and c cage, they are the best. A bite is not dangerous, and they rarely bite at all. They don't carry many diseases if you get them from a reliable breeder. A good website:http://hedgehogcentral.com/
