Does a dog smell water or sense it?

Can a dog actually smell water nearby, or does his animal instinct tell him that there is water and lead him to it?If you have links, please include them.Thanks.

Sense dogs have really good hearing my guess is that they can hear it moving. But I'm not 100% sure. The only animals I know can smell water is horses

I think both. Dogs can smell virtually anything, and their senses are amazing

Smelling is a sense so.......basically you question didn't make sense.......(unless u meant in a way as it just knows) But dogs do smell the water!

but what if the water is in a bowel. Water has a sweet smell. Dogs smell water that is not moving and hear and smell moving water.

Dogs smell the water, but, before a bath, if your dog freaks out its probably not the water it recognizes the preparation and connects that experience to previous ones.
