I adopted a beautiful 14 pound cat. I know there are just for fun cat shows. He is so pretty and very sweet and trusting he would be able to go into cat shows. He is the size of a beagle though. He is a big boy. I don't mind a bite from a small cat. But this guy is scary because he is so big. I just want to be socially involved with him and train him to walk on a leash. I know he isn't registered, but he would be great to show. They have them every so often I hear.

    • If you love cats and enjoy competition, you may have considered entering the realm of cat shows. Maybe you want to start showing and perhaps someday breeding purebred cats, or perhaps you want to enter your pet in household pet competition. This is a brief guide how on to get started showing in CFA.This link will take you to A Beginner's Guide To Exhibiting at CFA Cat Showshttp://home.earthlink.net/~featherland/off/showing.htmlThis link will take you to a site where you will learn everything you need to know about entering your cat in competition. http://www.kittycot.com/catshows.html

    • Both CFA and TICA have classes in their shows for household pets. Go to their web sites, and you'll find their show schedules. House hold pets are exactly that - unregistered kitties of any and all breeds. They are judged on personality, grooming, and "beauty". The must be spayed or neutered, and at least in CFA cannot be declawed. The cat will need to be preregistered, and there be information how to do that on each show's flyer - there is generally a link to each one off the show schedule on both the CFA and TICA web sites.

    • Here's the info for TICA's Household Pet division http://www.tica.org/public/hhp.php One of my cats has been TICA's Best Household Pet in the Northwest for the past year and in the top 10 in the world, too, both years. TICA has shows all over the world http://ticamembers.org/calendar/Not sure what you mean by "I don't mind a bite from a small cat. But this guy is scary". Does your cat bite people? If so, why would you want to show him? Household Pets are judged on not just how they look and how well groomed they are but how easy they are to handle and how friendly they are. Not only would your cat not do well at the show you may very well be asked to pull him from the show if he bites one of the judges while being handled.
