How do you get the knotted clumps out of your cats fur?

He is an outdoor cat, but lately he has been indoors a lot because of winter season. He does also get them in the summer months too, but now it is impossible to brush him anymore. Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks .

    • maybe brush it regularly,,,just like our hair when you it is really tangled,,,you brush it continuously until its smooth again,,,if it wont work,,you have to cut it

    • A. take it to a professional groomer if you care to pay for it, but if the clumping is that severe, that will probably be the safest bet.B. Try carefully using scissors to cut off the clumps. C. To prevent them from coming back, brush daily. Go to a pet store and ask for both a slicker brush and a tool that will be able to reach the cat's undercoat, like a shedding blade.

    • go to Wal-Mart and but some thinning sheers, it is easier and less traumatic to use them than scissors to cut out the mats. Then visit the below website or your local pet store and buy a mat comb...it helps to combat the mats.

    • If the clumps are really bad, it might be best to shave the cat. Then, it's important to brush a medium or long-haired cat daily so the clumps don't come back.My friend shaved his medium-haired cat for this reason. While the cat wasn't thrilled during the shaving process, he was much happier afterwards! Easier to keep himself clean, and cooler in the summer.
