How often should I get my dog tested for heartworm?

We haven't been giving her preventatives and she was tested for heartworm 12 months ago. Should I do it again?She doesn't have any symptoms for heartworm.

go get her tested again, if no heartworms, start her on the preventative heartgard plus, it only cost 25 dollars for a six month supply, very well worth it, that is what it cost here, shouldn't be much of a difference, if it is call 1-800-pet-meds, they are reasonable on their prices

If you go once a year your vet should give you preventative medicine for your dog and i believe you will not have any problems in the future.

Assuming you are giving your dog a heartworm preventative, you should have your pooch checked once a year. It's a simple blood test. If you aren't giving a preventative, you should have the doggie tested, and then start medicating!Good luck.

yes....... one time a year. but if your not giving your pet heartworm meds your pet might get it and it will cost more to cure him or her from it, Then giving the pill one time a month and if your giving them the meds you still have to get tested every year use the link below and get you med for 1/2 off. better then 1800 meds

Since you are not giving the preventative, you should have the test once or twice a year, spring and fall. Early on there are no symptoms with heartworm.
