What qualities do you look for in a veterinarian or a veterinary clinic?

The reason I ask this question is because I am about to graduate from veterinary school in a few short months and I interesting in hearing the best ways to serve my clientele and what better way then through Yahoo questions <img src="https://dogencyclopedia.net/FRAMeWORK/wcf/images/smilies/smile.png" alt=":)" /> Thanks in advance for you…

    • I close friend's cat just died. The clinic where she had been taking her cat did not have surgical facilities and she was responsible for transporting the ailing cat to an emergency facility. She would really have preferred to have known in advance that her clinic could not meet 100% of her needs. So, A) be able to perform surgery onsite or B) let clients know upfront if you are unable.

    • I have two pets and I look for cleanliness. I also consider the prices of the shots, exams etc. And a love for my animals. I want my pets to be treated nice and kind. I've been to vets that seem like they hated animals.

    • Consistancy in care. Not a clinic that looks for dollar signs but the true quality and honest to goodness care for peoples pets and their owners. You will meet all kinds of owners with all attitudes, grief, worries, concerns, shock, fright, gratitudes...which ever, but you and staff will have to work together as one unit to comfort and care and assess all matter of situations.. Must have a clean and sanitary facility as well as staff. Oh, dont hurry your patients out and then on to the next one. There is so much to caring for other peoples pets. Have your heart in the matter and it will show to your clientel. Good luck

    • I have changed vet practices before due to the receptionist and attitudes of the staff...making me feel like they were doing me a favor by seeing me. The entire staff at any clinic needs to like animals. I like the clinic to be a clean, friendly, inviting environment, and for the DR to explain procedures and findings with me. As the vet, you not only are treating the animals, you are also treating the animals' owner, and you need a good repore with them. As a dog breeder, I sometime have emergencies, (C-sections and so on), and I rely on my vet for flexible appts, and lots of advice. Also, by being available and checking in with patients by phone for follow up means a lot. Lots of patience, empathy, and understanding won't hurt any of us. Good luck to you.
