many kinds of tiny creatures, from worms to sand-flies, & even horseshoe crab eggs.. which is why many ppl are worried abt the increasingly HUGE hit that horsehoe-crabs are taking from fishing & medical research; they take TONS, many many tons, of adult horseshoe crabs every year, when they come in to breed. the dead horsehoe crabs are used as bait; the live ones are used for their blood- in medical research. so many migratory bird species are having a hard time; the fatty, rich eggs are very important, especially to birds who have to fly clear to the Arctic to breed, & back down in fall.
