By the end of the year, my wife and I plan on adopting an American Pit Bull Terrier as the family dog. I have bought tons of books on this breed, but I do want some first-hand advice from people who have owned the breed. With all the different brands of dog food, I have heard that a lot of kibbles are just a little bit of animal byproduct bonded together by ash. I don't want to ruin a dogs health with sub-par dog food, so I ask my fellow APBT enthusiasts on Y/A, what brand of dog food do your feed your pittys?

    • The best diet to feed your dog is the prey model raw diet. One reason I feed the raw diet is because that way I don't have to worry about recalls/contamination or what my dogs are eating. It isn't natural for dogs to eat things full of preservatives, additives, fillers, and flavor enhancers! I suggest switching also, kibble is killing our dogs. Did you know that dogs are developing problems as soon as they/before they are 5 years old? This includes cancer. Back in history, dogs lived into their late teens and early twenties eating scraps and raw diets. It's what they were made to eat. Why else would dogs be dying off and getting sick like this? It's NOT normal. You don't see wolves in the wild suffering from this, although they do have other things they suffer from (bad weather, lack if food). PLEASE read these before saying no.http://www.caninebark.com/2009/07/kibble…http://www.dogsnaturallymagazine.com/kib…http://voices.yahoo.com/5-reasons-kibble…http://www.thewholedog.org/artkibble.htm…

    • I agree with both. Blue Buffalo if you can afford it or a raw diet. Sadly I'm going thru hard times and have to use pedigree but I also feed him raw sometimes. Plus the biggest pit bull rescue has to result in pedigree too. But raw is best
