    • http://www.akc.org/breeds/newfoundland/Landseer is just one of the allowed coat colors of the Newf. Read the breed standard. Nobody here can help you choose what color you want or it's gender. That would have to be up to you. No decent breeder will let their pups go to their new homes until at least 8 weeks. With that said, I think you had better do a little more studying about this breed before you decide to make a purchase. You sound like a total Novice who is certainly not ready to buy a Newf.

    • If you want a Newfoundland, Go for a black, if you what a Landseer go for a black and white one.The puppy should be atleast 21 day's old in my opinion and I would go for male, but you could chose a female. I think you should go for a Newfoundland as they are loving dogs :)

    • 56 days (8 weeks) Adelaide - NOT 21. Anyone allowing the pup to go before that to a basic pet home shouldn't be breeding. You choose the colour and the gender.... but as you already have a St.Bernard might be best to go for the opposite and make sure the St. is neutered.

    • In the US and Canada, Landseer is part of the acceptable colors that make up the Newfoundland breed. In many parts of Europe, Landseer is a SEPARATE breed. There is a big difference in 'type' between a US Landseer and a Landseer ECT. Here in the US, Landseers have to be bred back to black Newfs in order to keep 'type'. http://www.landseer-ect.com/Breed%20Standard.html There is a saying among Newf people that 'a black Newfoundland will go & get the newspaper for you, but a Landseer will read it to you.' LOL I would never tell you what color Newf to purchase, but I WILL tell you to purchase your pup from a reputable hobby breeder. Newfie pups do not go home until they are 10 WEEKS OLD and not a day before, Newfoundland puppies should have their hearts checked by a Vet cardiologist before they go to their new homes and that can't happen until they are at least 9 weeks old. Here's why to purchase your pup from a responsible breeder:http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AokWxxVQ_QPtzro_k10lQyDty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20120818083335AA3O2vLI do think you need to research more about the breed before purchasing a Newf. You can join Newf Net - a forum for Newfoundland owners and prospective owners. You will learn so much!http://www.newf.net/Forums/ After doing some reading and research on Newf Net, you will be able to make an informed decision.EDIT**** I just read all of your Newfoundland questions, I am curious as to why you are so desperate to get a Newfoundland? I know many, many Newfoundland breeders in the US and I can tell you that none of the breeders that I know would ship a Newf puppy to India. Sorry!*****EDIT#2***** I didn't know you could answer your own question on YA. There are many wonderful breeders in Europe. Try there. The truth is that no reputable breeder in the US would ship their pup to India. The trip would be too long. My husband travels all over the world, so I know the flight is around 16 hours. Here is a list of breeders in Europe. I know some of them, because they travel to the US to show their dogs at our National. Look for a breeder that shows their dogs in conformation and posts/registers their health clearances. For heaven's sake, do not sound desperate to get your pup - that will raise eyebrows. Do your research about the breed BEFORE you contact a breeder - adult Newfies require a lot of grooming to keep them mat free - they need their undercoat pulled out during the hot months (when they start to shed). I use a tool called the Mars Coat King. They need their paw pads trimmed up a few times a year (the hair in between the paw pads) to keep them from slipping. They need at least a 30 minute walk every day during the cool parts of the day. They need their ears, feathers and hocks trimmed also or they begin to look shaggy. http://www.logrus.trivium.blink.pl/groomingnewfengl.html Know the health problems associated with the breed - have a good Vet with knowedge of giant breeds. Develop a phone relationship with the breeder so they get to know you - and can trust that they are sending their pup to a great home. What kinds of *quality* dog food are available where you live - they will ask you all of these questions. Do not worry about getting a dog from the US, there are many American Newfs in the European lines (and vice versa). The father of one of my American Newfs is from Switzerland. Puppies from Champion parents - the parents will have CH listed before their kennel names on the pedigree. I won't accept any money - this is about as much help as I can give you. http://www.eurobreeder.com/breeds/newfoundland.html Here is a list of breeders in Australia (also closer to you):http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/breeders/newfoundland.aspHere is where you can learn about the Newfoundland Breed:http://www.ncanewfs.org/newfs.shtml#.UDjPeuxy2q0One last thing: the breeder you choose should be a member of their national breed club - for instance here in the US - it is the Newfoundland Club of America.

    • Newfiemom -Thanks allot, got great help from all of this, well to answer your question, I already have a saint Bernard and I am a lover of Large working breads.I think out of all possible options that I have gone through a newf appeals to me the most.I am very well aware of the responsibilities of bringing up a newf and I am willing to take it on.I have asked a few local breeders in India and they are willing to import one for me, but somehow I do not feel very confident in adopting a new puppy through a third person, Thus I would like to directly converse with a reputed breeder, and want to make sure that I get a Quality pup.As per the living conditions for the dog are concerned, I live in north India where it is never too hot. Have a three storey villa and a fenced yard, All requirements will be met for the welfare of the breed. Just need some help and advice in getting in touch with a champion breeder. I would be grateful to you if you could assist me in finding a known breeder. From your knowledge I believe that you are quite experienced and familiar with the breed,I am more than willing to pay for any services you can provide me with Such as- Finding a breeder, advice on how to make sure if the pup is healthy or not, and any other ancillary services you can assist me with. Thanks Allot for your help, Really appreciate,Look forward to hear from you soon !
