How often to bathe a dog with allergies?

My dog keeps scratching himself so today I took him to the vet who told me he may have allergies. I got new food for him that's hypo allergenic and the vet also recommended that I bathe him 1-2 times a week using a special allergy shampoo. Is it ok to bathe a dog this often? Usually I would only bathe him once a month!
