      The dog did lick iteself a lot, and the owner was told to get it an ecollar, and to keep it from running jumping playing for a week to 10 days after surgery. When it first presented a week post op, it had a medium sized bump, which the vet said was a suture reaction. A few days later it must have gotten bigger, and resulted in hernia surgery.

    • Most likely the dog had too much activity too soon after surgery. It sounds like the inner sutures broke and the hernia developed. I know many owners like to give pain meds for several days but I think it encourages the animal to do more than it should.
