Am I being neurotic about fleas?
Am I being neurotic about fleas? General Dog Discussions
My mother's dog has fleas and since she went away for the weekend, I've had to take care of the house and dog. Two weeks ago I found bites on my legs and would see little pepper-like particles jump on my comforter but I probably only saw 5 at most in my bed over a 1 month period.I used flea powder twice on my oriental rug, once on my bed, and my blankets have all been washed/dried/bleached in hot water. I also used a spray on my bed numerous times as well as the carpet and on my PapaSun chair cushion. I also sprayed my room's perimeters and floor cracks.I did the carpets/couches with powder and all of the cushions and dog bed. I repeated this again today and used the spray on the perimeters of the couches and underneath. The spray contains the growth regulator and I'm pretty sure the powder does too. Do I need to get a fogger? Should I dry clean all of my clothes in my closet? Most of them can't be dried in a regular home dryer and I really don't have the extra $ for that. The dog has on flea medicine but is still itchy, itchy, itchy. I feel awful because she looks so unhappy and in pain but I can see a lot of the dead fleas already scattered on the floor and where she's been sleeping.I've been taking her for walks to get her mind off the itching because that's all she can do. What else should I do? Just wait it out? Buy more products and repeat? WIll they even work if the fleas haven't all been killed on the dog yet? I know the medicine is a gradual process and can't be applied all at once. PLEASE HELP, I'm really clueless and lost...and itchy and haven't been able to sleep more than 3 hours since I found out Friday. Two weeks ago when I found the bites on me and one or two fleas in my bed, my mother didn't believe me. This weekend since she went away, I had my older sister come over to look at the dog because she was always itching too, and my sister saw the fleas on her.I'm only 16 so I couldn't go to the vet to get the medicine, but my sister got over the counter flea medicine that she put on the dog's neck and down her back. I heard it takes 48 hours or something like that for a live flea to actually die so maybe that's why she's still itching?
