    • I am not very familiar with Panacur. From what I remember, it is usually used on dogs and puppies larger than mine.I usually use Strongid-T. For smaller breeds, it seems to work better. If this is a puppy you have just received, I would worm it once a week for 3 weeks. But again, that is just my preference.

    • Panacur is very commonly given to puppies that small. It is usually given in three day doses especially if the dog has ever had fleas. If not, a few vets give it in a one day dose. The nice thing about a three day dosage is that it will kill tapeworms.Fenbendazole which is the active chemical in Panacur has the nasty side effect of causing vomiting in some dogs. That is the only downfall. It is very difficult to overdose on this, and it is a very safe drug. I prefer Pyrantel for puppies. If you are absolutely sure the dog doesn't have tapeworms, I would choose that instead. It doesn't cause vomiting, and is safe in puppies as young as two weeks old. It does have a smaller effect though. Fenbendazole will kill migrating larvae in the blood stream while Pyrantel will only kill worms in the gut.
