    • 300 seems kind of low. Mine are all from AKC champion bloodlines and cost me between 1200-1500 each. I have 4 of them. I guess it would be fair, but I would want to know the history of the parents and also medical records before you commit. There could be some underlying problem she isn't teling you.

    • Whew boy. OK A BYB can breed any type of dog, period, not just small breeds. They can have many types of dogs.If this is a reputable breeder, she should have asked you a ton of questions before even agreeing to let you look at her dogs. She should have provided you with an OFA on the parents hips. A CERF on their eyes. A heart examination, and thyroid examination. She should have provided you with pedigrees showing her dogs as either conformation champions, or working dogs. The dogs should be proven in the home, vets office, and working field before being bred. they should have even temperment and no physical faults. The puppies should be indoors, at least 8-10 weeks old before being let go, given first vaccines and vet checked. The breeder should ask just as many questions as you about your knowledge of the breed and your living situation, and how you will provide for the puppy. Since you arent planning on showing the puppy should ONLY be offered on a limmited AKC registration. There is a lot more to being a reputable breeder then just her dogs looking ok- I aplaude you for wanting to not buy from a BYB but it really sounds like she is. And $300 is not an average price for a pet quality puppy from a reputable breeder, more like $800-$1000.I'll show you what a reputable breeder of rottweilers look like- let me get you some links.Choosing a reputable breeder: (this is boxers but still applies)http://www.jlhweb.net/Boxermap/reputablebreeder.htmlExample of a reputable working breeder (Shutzhund)http://www.vomblaurasen.com/Reputable show/working:http://www.vkwrottweilers.com/home.htmRott club of america:http://www.amrottclub.org/Notice all the information and genetic testing done. DONT EVER BUY A PUPPY WHOS PARENTS HAVEN'T HAD OFA/CERF....Or, Rescue a loving rottie in need of a new home!

    • check for vet records and AKC papers. seems a bit low for one but maybe cuz your neighbors she will hook you up lol. but im in ohio and most rots do go for 350-500 usually...not what the first answerer said. im sure they are fine dogs for that price but mostly they dont go for that much here

    • Nope, BYB. A BYB is any breeder that does not breed to better the breed. If either dam or sire is not AKC registered; if they are not champion titled; if they were not a carefully selected match to compliment each others' faults; if they were not bred for sound temperament; if they were not health tested for genetic diseases.... THIS is what makes a backyard breeder. It doesn't mean that the "breeder" is necessarily in it for the money -- but if they don't do all the things I listed above, they are "cutting corners." NO reputable breeder would be selling quality pups for $300.http://www.jlhweb.net/Boxermap/reputablebreeder.htmlCheck out these stories from fellow boxer owners who bought (before they knew any better) from BYBs:http://www.boxerworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=76541Add:If she's a reputable breeder, she wouldn't go offering people pups. Good breeders care too much about their dogs to go advertising them. She would be asking you lots of questions, like have you ever owned a dog, have you owned a large, dominating breed, do you feel you could control a dominating dog, where would you keep the dog, how often can you commit to training and exercising the dog, etc. etc.You said they look "ok." If they were quality dogs, I think you'd know it, but that's just my opinion....

    • Well if your concerned about it then go online and do some googling, or ask around or ask her if she could provide you with numbers emails of people that people have bought her past dogs? can't hurt right?? Best of Luck

    • I knew this was going to happen with everybody saying things only about the designer breeds and saying things like all of them are coming from byb's and saying how can we put a stop to designer breeds and not saying anything about purebreds or large breed dogs that you can get from byb's. I'm starting to think that people don't like small mixed breeds. It's very sad! Any dog, any type can come from a byb. I have a Doberman that i got from a byb. Yep i went to there house met the parents of the puppies... I thought everything was great get the dog home and the next thing you know i spent lots on vet bills. Not that i mind cause i love my dog and i loved him from day one it's just that i was mad at the breeders. So don't think for one min. that byb's don't breed large breeds or purebreds cause they do. I would defiantly check really hard into them cause $300.00 is a steal. Something has to be wrong. Check in to any breeder before you buy. Sometimes people are tricky so be careful. There are good breeders out there so if you want a Rottweiler find a good breeder. You will pay more, but it's worth it if that is what you want. Good Luck!
