I have a 10 month old English bulldog and Im trying to find a cheap, but good dry dog food for him. It honestly can't be too much (Im a stay at home mom of a 6mo old and my husband is a Lcpl in the Marine Corp) but I need something that could cut down on his gas as well. The closest thing to us is Walmart besides the grocery store on base and it carries similiar, if not the same brands. If anyone can help it'd be greatly appreciated!

    • I have read suggestions for dog flatulence, such as feeding three times a day to avoid wolfing the food, and having a bowl elevated. As for food, buy small bags of the best you can and keep a list of his windiness after he eats. Then buy big bags of the one his digestion likes.

    • What is he on now? Try to find one of the cheaper things such as Iams or Purina 1 that has a different first ingredient. Grain frees are for the Starbucks crowd.

    • I'm going to assume that this account is your husband's.There is no such thing as 'cheap' and 'good'. Labman, as I've gleaned from his other answers, is one of those that has bought the marketing hook, line, and sinker, and has never bothered to do trials himself, and also has never seen in person what a truly healthy dog looks like. You have a bulldog - if you bought from someone calling them 'English', then you bought from a scuzzy backyard breeder. Which also means that your dog is not very healthy to begin with and likely will have many genetic-related issues throughout his life. Sad but true. Therefore at the LEAST alleviate that with a good diet. Grain-free is NOT just for the 'Starbucks crowd' - what a silly, uninformed, and immature thing to say. Good health is important for EVERYONE, regardless of your salary bracket. And I say that coming from minimum wage myself, so don't think I can afford luxuries and think everyone else should be able to as well.Go raw (no grains, no veggies) or at the least pick a minimally processed, grain-free kibble. Real food is more nutritionally dense with less waste - you're not buying ingredients that are literally just going to be crapped out in a few hours. Sure it's technically more expensive at the checkout (though many raw feeders can feed real food for the same price as that Pedigree/Purina/IAMS junk), but what you're buying is real nutrition for real health - you won't have the same diet-related veterinary bills down the road.Hope this helps!

    • I also have an english bull dog and I know a lot about the breed. So if u have anymore ? Feel free to ask me and ill help as much as I can. For now until the dog is at least 15 months old he should be eating puppy food. I always use purena puppy chow. For when he gets older I would feed him purena fit and trim this is what I feed mine and this helps with the gas too. Another thing u can do is only feed ur dog once in the morning and then again at bed time but leave water down all day. These dogs should not have food left down all day. They can get over weight vary easly. And if they do get over weight this can be vary vary bad for them. And also if u didn't already know these dogs can not deal with heat as well as other dogs can and when its 80 or higher out they should never be left out side for more then 5 to 10 min at the max. Any longer and they could DIE. So please be careful. And if u need anymore info just ask me.......I hope this helps and good luck

    • I have a 15 month old English Bulldog, and I've found that Royal Canin works best with her sensitive stomach. However, this isn't sold at Wal Mart. I've read that purina is good for English Bulldogs and is sold in Wal Mart. I tried this for a little while to save a little money, but it never worked well with her stomach. Maybe you would have better luck. If you do decide to go the more pricey route i would definitely recommend Royal Canin. They have a line specific for English Bulldogs.

    • Congratulations on your English bulldog puppy. They are such awesome dogs. Bulldogs are know to be gassy sometimes just because they have a "smooshed" nose. They tend to swallow more air and therefore are more gassy. Also the type of food can contribute to gas as well. Bulldogs are know to have food sensitivities and skin issues so you need to be very careful what you feed. I'm a pet nutrition specialist with The Nutro Company and I would recommend you feed a limited ingredient diet to help with any potential food sensitivities. I would recommend you feed Nutro Natural Choice Lamb and Rice. It's been my experience that dogs on lamb tend to be the least gassy. I would check with your vet to see if he still wants your puppy on a puppy formula or wants to transition to an adult formula. Either way, Nutro Natural Choice has a lamb and rice formula. Natural Choice lamb and rice is made in the US and contains no corn or wheat which dogs can be potentially sensitive too. Nutro also guarantees you will see improvement in skin and coat for your dog, too. It has high levels of omega 3 and 6 fatty acids so your dogs coat will be sleek and shiny with less shedding. It's guaranteed or your money back. Here's a link to learn more about Natural Choice and read some customer reviews. http://www.nutro.com/natural-dog-food/natural-choice-dog-food/adult-dog-food-lamb-rice-dry.aspx If you have any questions, please message me or contact our customer care team at 1-800-833-5330. Hope this helps. PS: A big thanks to your husband for serving in the military.
