Where can I purchase a Shorkie puppy from?

My dream is to own a Shorkie (Shih Tzu/Yorkie) mixed breed dog. They are so adorable. I live in NYC and I'd like to purchase one. I'd like a darkie dog, almost black in color. The gender wouldn't matter also, but female is fine. Do you know how much I am…

Do you know the price range a Shorkie would fall in?Thank you.

    • If you want links to puppy mills and BYBs, you're not going to find anyone here supporting them. And those are pretty much the only breeders, save some poodle cross breeders breeding for less allergenic guide dogs potentials, that intentionally breed mixes.Rescues get these designer mixes all the time - since with a mix, there's no guarantee on appearance, temperament, or health, a lot are surrendered when they don't come out looking like the buyer wanted. So you can give one of these mixes, which originated the same way, a home instead of encouraging them to breed more, and not pay a bloody mint either.I don't see the issue there when it's what you were looking for, do you?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUVBvl0Fe…http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/designerdogs…http://home.comcast.net/~NoPuppyMillsVA/…http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/story?i…There are some pretty unbiased articles on the pros and cons of designer crossbreeds. Read carefully, there's no regulation, no standards, and often, no health checks in any of the breeding dogs. You're also talking about two toy mixes - so any genetic problems that both breeds have, you're at high risk for in your dog. Luxating patella is one, and if they're advertising things like super small, teacup etc - liver shunts and other complications of premature birth.Rescues typically cost around $150-400 depending on the age of the dog and the medical care that's been shelled out - but that includes spay/neuter, as well as treatment and diagnosis of any health issues or problems, socialization being at least started, as well as obedience and housetraining/crate training.

    • Scummy BYBersOnly BYBers will bred dogs like that. Since you only want a dog for its appernace you will just end up dumping it once you realize how much work they are

    • try shelter or rescue.. there's plenty of mutts there www.petfinder.comlook for an adult if you want a particular color- puppies can fade. Yorkies carry a fading gene, so a yorkie mix can easily go from dark to light.

    • First thing I'd like to say, is that the best place to get a dog from is a shelter. But, how come "official breeders" can crossbreed all they want to create "new breeds" when we look down on anyone who does? Some of them out there have to be cross breeding or else there would be no new dog breeds as all dog breeds come from crosses in the past, which is much healthier then inbreeding. How can you ignore all the genetic defects in "purebred" dogs?I don't believe cross bred dogs to have any more behavioural problems then "purebred" dogs.I would rather get a dog from a BYB who has their dogs health checked (**ask for vet records**), then a "purebred". Also, get it from a place where you can go visit the dogs to see what condition they're kept in. Don't get a dog from a pet store, those dogs are usually from puppy mills & those dogs are treated horribly.
