My AKC/OFA certified boxer came into heat last December and had a beatiful litter of puppies in March. I have not noticed any signs of heat since the litter. When can I expect her to come into heat again? Could there be problems or is this normal? She had been vet approved to breed as she is a compliment to the boxer breed and has had her testing done.

    • A female dog will normally come back into heat 6 months after her last heat cycle even if she had puppies. So if she was in heat in Jan. you should expect her to be in heat in July. Having puppies doesn't change her heat cycle.

    • Sorry, if you need to ask this question then you are NOT as good a breeder as you are trying to make yourself out to be. Those of us that actually know what we are doing recognize you for the BYB you are.PS what exactly was her OFA rating? What other testing did she have? Bet you can't tell me.....

    • Ask you vet... He's the one with the degree..he's the one who knows. How fun to have a boxer!! Great dogs. ♥ My old english sheep dog ~ Barney andMy cocker spanial ~ Watson send their love...♥

    • This is something that is determined by the genetics of the dog involved... as well as the health.I would phone her breeder.... and talk to your mentors. Most b*tches come into season on a fairly regular schedule and you should expect that she would stay on that schedule whether she whelped or not. (average b*tch comes in season 4 mos after whelping which is 6 mos after last season). You may wish to discuss this with a veterinary reproductive specialist as he/she may have some insight.

    • well i was told 4-6 months, but mine only just came into season 7 months after having her first litter. your dog is an individual, so is every dog, it varies from dog to dog, just like normal seasons do.i know what you must have thought...........i thought my girl was infertile when her season didn't come on tI'me.im sure you know but just in case..........you must skip the next season before breeding her again........then give her a break for a year.

    • Did you discuss this with your mentor? I read couple of your previous posts, you don't sound knowledgeable to me. If you don't know the answer of this question yourself, it makes to have a doubt that you are a responsible breeder. What's her result from OFA? Your vet thinks she's a compliment to the breed does not mean that she conforms to AKC breed standard. Besides OFA, what other testings you have done on her?

    • Every Dog is defferent. I have a female that only comes into heat once a year. and another that comes into heat every 4 months. So it really is different for every dog. The heat cycle will be the same even if she whelped a litter of puppies. How old is the dog?
