Oops, lolSo the bull terrier dog in my avatar isn't a pit bull type dog? Wow, why do they have to make things so confusing? LOL, well at least I'm learning. • Your avatar is NOT a Staffordshire Bull Terrier... it is simply a White Bull Terrier.Edit: Bull Terrier- http://images.google.com/images?q=Bull+Terrier&rls=com.microsoft:en-us&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&um=1&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&resnum=1&ct=titleStaffordshire Bull Terrier- http://www.sbtca.com/site01/Am. • well, an amstaff is a completely different breed.if it was a pit, then it would just be called a pit.in akc, its not a pit at all.however, some people call any dog that has a 'block skull' a pit. so you are right and wrong!but its okay, cuz they all look the same anyway lol

    • Yes, you were correct. Although, you did miss a few details. Pit Bull is a term commonly used to describe several breeds of dog in the Molosser family that were historically used for dog fighting. The breeds most often placed in this category are the American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier and Staffordshire Bull Terrier. In the media the term is vague and may include other breeds with similar physical characteristics, such as the Perro de Presa Canario, Cane Corso, Dogo Argentino, Alano Espanol, Japanese Tosa, Dogue de Bordeaux, Cordoba Fighting Dog, Bull Terrier, Antebellum Bulldog, Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog, American Bulldog, Boxer, Valley Bulldog, Olde English Bulldogge, Renascence Bulldogge, and Banter Bulldogge.

    • Spontania I believe you are right in most of your answer.I have never heard of a "high class pit bull." The pit bull term is used to describe the American Pit bull Terrier, American Staff.Terrier and Am Staff.Bull Terrier but the dog in your avatar is white bull terrier

    • my understanding from my veterinarian boss is that "pit bull" is a vague term used to cover a number of breeds. these include the three you mentioned, but technically includes other dogs in the molosser family (these are the mastiff breeds) and mixes of any of these. he himself has an am bulldog & said this is also considered a "pit" in the grand scheme of the name.the average person refers to the APBT, AST & SBT when talking about pits...but that doesn't mean that the others aren't included too. it's just what the popular term is used for and what people know them as. so your question really doesn't have a right or wrong answer. it's all kind of a grey area, since the term is non-specific. in ohio, the pit bull laws define "pit bull" as not only your three breeds, but also the the am bully & anything with physical or behavioral characteristics of any of those. that's a pretty broad definition, i'd say.http://www.franklincountyohio.gov/commissioners/ancl/programs/enforce_pitbull.cfm personally, i prefer people use the real terms to avoid any confusion...but the ones who keep referring to them all as "pits" are generally the ones least knowledgeable about them and the differences between them. not a hard thing to do since they do have very similar features.

    • I hate these questions because everyone believes something different.*I* think that Pit Bull should be a shortened name for APBT, like Aussie is for Australian Shepherd. It doesnt work that way because those three dogs (Amer. Staffordshire Terrier, APBT, and Staffordshire Bull Terrier) are all grouped in, in most people's definitions. A bunch of other bully breeds often get grouped in as well.
