    • Really, you're looking at three relatively common breeds:Bulldog (sometimes called the English Bulldog, which is actually an extinct breed)French BulldogAmerican BulldogThe Bulldog and French Bulldog both have high initial purchase prices (thousands) due to unusually high breeding costs, and tend to have a lot of health difficulties. Use care when choosing a dog or puppy of this breed. The Bulldog is medium in size, the French Bulldog is a smaller dog. They tend to be headstrong and stubborn. They can be okay in families with well-mannered children past toddler age, good management, and fat wallets for what are likely to be large vet bills at some point. The American Bulldog is a working breed. They're lovely dogs, but I personally would not keep an AmBull in a pet-only home, I think they need a "job" to do or to participate in a dog sport of some sort, or at the very least an extremely active household who will include the dog in lots and lots of activity every day. There are some quite rare legitimate breeds that are related, such as the Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog, but most other "bulldogs" are badly bred mutts- like the Olde English Bulldogge, Valley bulldog, etc. None of the rare bulldog breeds would I recommend for a family pet situation.

    • Bulldogs are NOT a good choice for small children, THey are difficult to train, and tend to knock things over without meaning to. I suppose a French Bulldog would be preferable if you really want one because they are smaller. http://petrix.com/dogint/70-79.html
