    • Depends on the lease agreement. Some apartment managers/owners have a list of breeds not allowed. I suggest you check that list. As for large, white dogs there are many breeds that fit that. Pyrenees, Pet-quality Boxers, Amstaff (although I don't think they are supposed to be full white) APBT, White GSD and several others. Most of those are long haired but they're what I could think of off-hand. Most dogs shed, some more than others The best thing you can do is check for allowable breeds and then check the local shelter. Getting a dog for "protection" isn't such a hot idea though. Ask the landlord about installing a security system and get the dog just to be a pet.

    • white german shepherd.german shepherds naturally are GREAT guard dogs.i have one and he makes me feel safe in my appartment that had got burgled (before i had him).the only problem with them is that they do shed abit but they are EXCELLENT protection dogs, great with children, and ONE OF THE MOST LOYAL DOGS EVER!

    • Great Pyrenees! They are so gentle and loving!http://www.dogs-central.com/dogs-puppies/great-pyrenees-dog-puppy/great-pyrenees.jpgseriously, look up about this guy! he is big, white, and soooo mellow and gentle and loving!!!! and he looks like a "giant Pomeranian" ! HA! plus, they usually bark at someone they don't know! but i would get a security system, too! dog can't do it all!

    • How about an English Bulldog, they are very jovial, fun loving dog's that dont care if they have a yard to play in or not. Although, they do shed. But their bark is super intimidating. I have one and he is so harmless, but strangers don't know that.

    • In that size range, not much in white that will not 'shed much'. A Samoyed is in that range and if brushed regularly won't shed too much except for 2x/yr. You can get white Boxers, very little shedding. A Standard Poodle or other breeds mixed with one.

    • Dogo Argentino, but alot of landlords/insurance will not take you with this breed. They are extremely loving family type dogs that will protect when necessary. Short hair, faithful and obedient, if you train them! Lovely dogs with kids, if raised with them. I would have one, but I have rotties...maybe, someday!

    • Well the only protection breed I can think of that comes in white is a GSD but they shed like there is no tomorrow. Almost any breed will try to "protect" its owner has long as they have a sound relationship. I would suggest that you good to one of the all breed dog site such as http://www.dogbreedinfo.com and look for low shedding breeds and see it there is anything you are interested in. If so contact the parent club and some breeders for more information about the breed. One thing you should know is low shed and non-shedding breeds often actually require more grooming than your normal shedding breed so don't mistake low shedding for low coat maintenance. Also if you a looking for a dog who will intimidate would be attackers with its looks rather than with its teeth I would suggest that you reconsider your color choice since studies have shown that most people are more intimidated by a dark dog than by a light dog. Also remember that if your dog does use its teeth you can be sued. If you most have a white dog make sure that you do not get an albino since they have problems with deafness and blindness.

    • forsaken :just so you know, no, mastiffs don't come in white. :) they can be fawn (which can be mistaken for white if it's very pale, or silver-fawn), apricot (a rich chestnutty tan) and brindle (apricot or fawn with very dark stripes).just fyi! (:also, as for what kind of dog.. i can't guarantee any of them, because i really only have true personal experience with mastiffs, but hey. (:soft coated wheaten terrier -- good watchdogs who bark at strangers, not perfectly white but more of a cream color. they're a little below what you're looking for, but males can be up to 45 pounds. they bond extremely closely with their owner.standard bull terrier -- "A Bull Terrier might have a preventive effect and it might defend it's owner in a truly critical situation, but it isn't breed to be a guard dog. Courageous, scrappy, fun-loving, active, clownish and fearless. The Bull Terrier is a loyal, polite, and obedient dog. They become very attached to their owners. . . They make excellent watch dogs." (BUT DO YOUR RESEARCH ON THIS ONE!) (50-80 lbs.)dogo argentino -- "The Argentine Dogo is an excellent guardian of the home. Loyal to the family, playful and intelligent. It is good with children and loves to kiss and cuddle with those the family accepts." (80-100 lbs.. a little more than you're looking for.)yellow labrador retriever -- NOT white, but i find they very often appear white. you probably know about these guys.or how about just a nice white mutt? :) often the best you can get, go save a life!
