    • That might be a clue - I think you might first want to contact a breeder out of your area, and ask them about their dogs. It may just be that they are not well suited for where you live. A reputable breeder who truly cares about their dogs will ask you a LOT of questions, and and not be too ready to ship you a dog. Speak to them, and see what they say.

    • http://www.akkaoa.org/breeders.html has a list of breeders. There are none listed in MI, but there is one in MN that you may be able to work with. I briefly looked at the site for the MN breeder, and I don't see anything about health tests, showing, or improving the breed, so it would be up to you to make sure it's a good breeder. http://www.pbrc.net/breeding3.html can help with that.

    • I live in MI too and also have a hard time looking for a purebred. Have you checked with the humane society of michigan? here check this site there are 9 rescues/shelters that might have one:http://www.petfinder.com/awo/index.cgi?action=state&state=MI&city=Detroit&keyword=http://www.classykennel.com/ (breeder) in michiganAlaskan klee kai is a rare breed so this will make your search harder.http://www.petfinder.com/awo/index.cgi?location=48205&keyword=

    • Just wanted to point out that AKKAOA does post their purposes and what they subscribes to on the front page of their website :)www.akkaoa.orgTo post a couple...And they subscribe to bring the natural qualities of the pure-bred Alaskan Klee Kai to perfection through selective breeding;to encourage genetic awareness within the breed by occasionally polling members as to the problems they may have encountered and publishing a list or brochure from the information collected giving clinical signs, methods of diagnosis, age of onset, mode of inheritance and potential treatments and prognosis when these things are known;Since the breeders listed on the website are members of the club, they should be adhering to these purposes.Like the other poster said tho.. contact the breeders individually and ask lots of questions and get to know them.I hope this helps some in your research.Terry

    • The Alaskan Klee Kai looks a miniature alaskan husky and is very rare. There are not many breeders overall so finding a breeder in your town is not likely unless you live in a large metropolitan area. The best places to look for an AKK puppy would be at UKCdogs.com or at akkaoa.org . Ask plenty of questions about the breed, kennel, and their dogs and be prepared to wait for your pup. Alaskan Klee Kai have small litters. Most breeders have waiting lists. The AKK community does it's best to keep their dogs from ending up in shelters. Finding one at a shelter is not likely. Best of Luck to You in your search.
