    • its pretty easy to train dogs especially with work dogs there are lots of site that will show you or tell you how to train them http://www.freedogtraininginfo.com/ this site should tell you everything you want to train your dog

    • Join some Yahoo groups for dog training. My favorite is Cesar MillanFan Club, since I do use his methods and believe in what he does with dogs.I envy you with a Malamute. Great, great dogs. My favorite is akitas, a breed that is NOT for everyone either.Brenda

    • first, hoping he's a puppy. you'll have to spend alot of time with a leash making him walk BESIDE you. we got our malamute x when he was 6 months and he'd never been on a leash. at age 4 he still does nothing but pull. when i'm walking him i have to put him on a no pull harness. remember that this breed is a close cousin to wolves. watch him around small children. you should contact a malamute "chat" room. or something like.

    • Some myths I need to dispell first:1. Malamutes are no more "close cousin" to the Wolf than any other breed of dog. The have been domesticated for THOUSANDS of years.2. Malamutes are EXCELLENT with children. Again, you no more need to worry about them with your child than any other breed of dog. Some very good friends of mine managed to raise 4 children with a kennel of Alaskan Malamute show dogs, and -- believe it or not -- no child was ever eaten! That said, this is a dominant, pack-oriented breed, and they require a firm human presence. They will dominate you if they can, especially after they hit puberty. Spaying and neutering is a good idea.Obedience classes, beginning with a puppy kindergarten class, is a great start. Puppy K is excellent for socialization. Find a dog training club in a city/town near you if you can, otherwise you can find these classes at PetsMart/PetCo (not my first choice, but okay for puppy classes). Here is a list of training/behavior books recommended by the Alaskan Malamute Club of America:http://www.alaskanmalamute.org/publiced/BooksTraining.aspI would recommend the Kohler book, as well as "The Art of Raising A Puppy".Also: "How to Raise a Puppy You Can Live With"http://www.amazon.com/How-Raise-Puppy-You-Live/dp/1577790766/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1201625828&sr=8-1"After You Get Your Puppy", by Ian Dunbarhttp://www.amazon.com/After-You-Get-Your-Puppy/dp/1888047011/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1201625868&sr=1-5Good luck!
