I've always wanted a large alaskan malamute and i was told that the large types; or "giant", have more of a m'loot heritage. Usually alaskans are around 22" - 25" tall whereas m'loot malamutes are around 35" tall. I've had a look and can't find any breeders here in the UK, do you have any ideas what i should do? thank you in advance for any help.

    • What I don't understand and what worries me is that if you are suitable for a malamute at all and especially a larger than standard one then you wouldn't be asking on a site like this. You would already know and be in touch with malamute owners / breeders / exhibitors in the UK and get your information from them.ie.. I have rottweilers, and yahoo would be the last place I would come for info on a rottie in the UK.I don't know enough about the specific lines in malamutes to advise you further other than to go through something like the breed club and work from there, as I would if I was wanting another breed.http://www.alaskanmalamute.org.uk/http://www.amwa.org.uk/

    • Told by who exactly?Alaskan malamutes are fairly large powerful dogs already, why the hell does anyone feel the need to want an even larger one.Besides, anyone who is not breeding gods to the breed standard and breeding purely for size isn't likely to be giving much regard to soundness physically or temperamentally, so you may well end up with a very large , very ill dog with terrible temperament. If oyu think you want an Alaskan Malamute do some more research and be absolutely sure they are the dog for you as the sled dog breeds have incredibly high exercise requirements and are not the easiest of breeds to train, indeed many are are never able to be let off-leash. Are you really able to provide 2-3+ hours of on-leash running every day for your dog.
