We have 2 dogs. One is a 4-year-old Alaskan Malamute that weighs nearly 80 pounds. She has fear aggression toward other dogs. When she sees another dog, she starts barking and growling and pulling on her leash as if she wants to attack the dog. When she was younger, she liked to play with a particular dog, but she played too rough and drew blood twice, so the other owner stopped letting her play with the dog. We live in an urban area (Los Angeles) and she gets a long walk in a park every morning where she sees many other dogs, but her behavior has not improved. Any suggestions?

    • maybe socialize with a few of your friends dogs daily and that might make her improve her behavior cos she just needs to get used to other dogs my dog was like that she growled, barked and pulled but as she started to meet dogs she improved by alot ! ;lx

    • It could be that she just doesn't like other dogs. Maybe part of her personality. Now, if she gets along well with your other dog, then she is open to other 'relationship' with dogs. You could start with just one dog that you know well and try to get her to interact with it and to play nice. If you see that the play time is getting to rough and uncomfortable then separate them for a little while, impose yourself and show her that even if she's playing, your still the boss or more like a baby-sitter. When two kids play together and one pulls the hair of the other you will stop them and show them it's not nice. You must do the same with the dog, they are life time babies. Theres no point into shutting her away from all the other dogs. You seem more worried about it then the other dogs are. Dogs bark, usually don't growl but some do, when they want to play or are just very excited. Try letting her interact with others, you'll see it's not as bad as you think it is. And if anything does happen, always make sure you'r there to stop her and pull her away.Have fun, it can take awhile before getting the hang of itBut in the end, you'll both be happy :)TigLeo

    • Hi,Dog-dog aggression is treatable but nearly always requires the help of a trained professional (and lifelong vigilance). Doing everything you can to prevent it in the first place is a much better option. Here are some info:http://lnk.nu/dogtime.com/ry0.html
