what to expect when adopting an american bulldog?

my friend recently went through the trauma of a shooting in the family. she had a total of seven dogs that he was no longer able to care for- so my family volunteered to take in their 10 year old American Bulldog. We have one other dog already (a St. Bernard) and i was wondering if anyone here owned an american bulldog and could give me some tips?? thanks ♥
