I have always believed that online dog breed selectors are fun, but not really accurate or helpful. So I wanted to test it by having you all take it. You must already know what your ideal breed is. If you are a dog breed or have several of one breed or just have a personal favorite dog breed, whatever, all that matters is, you know which dog breed is your favorite and most suitable for you. Then say what your favorite dog breed is, the one you know fits you the most and take one of these tests. Tell us which test you took (or which testS you took) then say what your results were. I have heard of a huge Olde English Sheepdog lover who took a breed selector, and got a Bichon Frise as their ideal breed. So let's start1. http://dogtime.com/matchup/start2. http://animal.discovery.com/breedselector/dogselectorindex.do3. http://www.iams.com/iams/breed-information.jsp4. http://www.selectsmart.com/DOG/5. http://www.k9country.com/perl//dogBreed.pl6. http://www.eukanuba.com/EukGlobal/en/dog-breed-selector.jspThe last one takes a while to load and has a lot of question, and it may not work on your computer, if so just skip it.I'll show you an example. My favorite breeds are Afghan Hounds, Azawakhs, Salukis, and Sloughis.I've taken all the selectors, but my results for #1 was a Basset Hound, then a Bernese Mountain Dog.

    • I own a Lab, Chihuahua, 2 toy poodles, and an Aussie/Border Collie/Golden Retriever mixThe 1st test said I should get either a Lab, Golden Retriever, Sussex Spaniel, Flat coated retriever or a Grey hound

    • 1. Tibetan Mastiff, Bullmastiff, Bloodhound, Great Pyrenees, Sussex Spaniel2. Greater Swiss Mountain Dog (100%), Black Russian Terrier, Bullmastiff, Mastiff (99%), Anatolian Shepherd (98%)...Basset Hounds were on the third page (8 dogs per page) at 97%3. Beagle (66%), Harrier, Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, *BASSET HOUND* (65%), English Foxhound (61%)4. Harrier (100), Labrador Retriever (98), Bulldog, Pharaoh Hound (97), Brittany Spaniel (96)5. 90% matches - Bloodhound, Harrier, Labrador Retriever, Alaskan Malamute, Boxer, Greater Swiss Mountain Dog.

    • On the first one I got:Sussex Spaniel, Golden Retriever, Labrador Retriever, Flat-Coated Retreiver and Black and Tan Coonhound.Normally, I have no luck with the dog breed selectors, but this one seemed decent! I have two mutts: a spaniel-mix and a lab-mix, so at least it managed the general type of dog correctly. In fact, most of the top 15 from this list were breeds that seem to be in my mutts (of course, that's just a guess. But it does indicate that it makes SENSE).The Animal Planet one (#2) just gave somewhat esoteric answers... not very useful, but still in the same general breed category. For the Iams one (#3) my mixes were represented in the top of the list. And I stopped bothering after that. One thing I normally see with the breed selectors is that they don't ask enough questions to determine a general fit. You tend to get entire breed categories, which can narrow it down, or there is one floating around out there that gave me about 50 breeds, most of which would be rather difficult to find out here, and they were just listed alphabetically, not by good fit.

    • I own an APBT and a Chihuahua. Bully breeds, APBTs and Bull Terriers specifically, are my favorite.I took the first test and my first two results were Golden Retrievers and Labs - inaccurate, as I'm not particularly fond of either breed. The second test was pretty accurate - my top result was Alaskan Malamute, other high results included the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Boxer, and American Staffordshire Terrier - all dogs that I love.

    • That was fun. I only did #1. What was unique one of the dogs listed I really love and have had a male and female, so intern bred them for a few years. after they passed it took me a year or so and I got another. Now she has been gone about 3yrs. My favorites by the way wereMin. Schnauzers. What I have now will make you laugh. Dog#1 American Eskimo #2 chihuahua Doxi mix and #3 is a BIG Doberman. All of these dogs have belonged to different family members that just keep them anymore and Just knew we would have room for them. Crazy but they are are pets now and I wouldn't part with any.

    • Thanks for posting this, I enjoyed taking the tests. I took the first 5 (the last one froze up). My favorite breeds are the Doberman and the Old English Sheepdog, but they never made it into the top 10. The first test actually had several breeds that I would consider getting, but most of the other quizzes were way off. The #1 breeds included Irish Wolfhound, Australian Shepherd, Bouvier des Flandres, and Golden Retriever. No offense to anyone that likes these dogs, but I wouldn't want any of them. I think the problem is that I'm a lot more flexible than a multiple choice question will allow. I guess I'll stick to my own research and just use these quizzes for fun.

    • Well for the record I tried taking all of them. My breed is Shih Tzu. I found the first 2 quizzes the most accurate. Here is what each said:1. Top 5 - Japanese Chin, Lhasa, Shih Tzu, Pekingese, Bichon 2. Top 5 - Shih Tzu, Lhasa, Pekingese, Sealyham Terrier, Lowchen3. Top 2 - Lab and Golden Retriever (though this didn't surprise me either, as my last dog was a Lab and I adored her).4. Top 4 - Bichon, Poodle, Portugese Water Dog, Havanese5. Top 4 - Bichon, Border Terrier, Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, and Italian Greyhound.6. I gave up because it got stuck after question 4.
