I am 17 living with my mom and 1 middle aged cat. We exercise a lot running and going to the park so an energetic dog would be nice. My mom doesn't like shedding at all so a shorthair with not much shedding is needed. Preferrably a medium sized dog bigger than a cat but smaller than a pure lab (hopefully just a little smaller). Our house is relatively small with 4 bedrooms and a large family room, our backyard also is pretty small with a lawn. Queit would be nice but not silent. We would prefer an agile dog capable of tennis ball and frisbee play. We have around 8 hours home everyday and would be willing to spend 30 minutes a day to keep our dog active. Give me your ideas and I'll add more details if you want them!

    • Some breeds you might consider are:Australian Cattle Dog http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/australiancattledog.htm Belgian Malanois (My personal favorite)http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/belgianmalinois.htmBlack and Tan Coonhoundhttp://www.dogbreedinfo.com/blackandtancoonhound.htmBoxerhttp://www.dogbreedinfo.com/boxer.htmAmerican Foxhoundhttp://www.dogbreedinfo.com/americanfoxhound.htmEnglish Foxhoundhttp://www.dogbreedinfo.com/englishfoxhound.htmGranted some of these might be a little big for what your looking for, I think these would be a good fit. This said, if you could talk your mom into it, I think a Border Collie would be perfect for you. Keep in mind that most dogs only shed once or twice a year, and if you keep them brushed out, there shouldn't be that much loose fur. Here some info on the Border Collie:http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/bordercollie.htmI hope this helped!

    • italian greyhound, whippet or greyhound all the way! they are perfect as jogging companions but they are complete couch potatos the other 90 % of the day. they love to chase balls and frisbees and don't yap alot. make sure you research your breed thouroughly before you buy good luck hope this helps :)

    • A shelter dog that you meet and know it's personality before you take it home! :) That's way better than any purebred.I got a Pit Mix from the shelter that's the best running buddy ever. He's 45lbs and a beautiful brindle. He's a total pansy though, the mini-schnauzers barking at him in the neighborhood make him hide behind me. lol.
