What is the rarest dog breed?

I read in a book that the Lowchen (sp?) is the rarest. Is this true?

The rarest dog in the world? You'd need tests done to find the statistics, so I cannot say.The rarest dog to be registered with the AKC is the English Foxhound.

According to some of the dog shows I've seen on TV, Dogue de Bordeaux, also known as French Mastiff, is very rare. So much so that it is put into the special category for rare breeds.

Pocket Beagles. Many people say they own one but they just think it is one because it's 8-10 inches. Incorrect! An actual pocket beagle is about 5-7 inches and they are almost extinct. Many of the ones alive today are unhealthy because people bred them with the smallest dog each time... making them smaller and smaller. They sure are cute though! ( I don't own a pocket beagle, they are about 2000 dollars. I own a 13 inch beagle)
