How can you tell if a puppy is a bulldog or a pitbull?

Ok maybe the only actual bulldog breeder on here should answer this question. Bulldogs DO have tails, they either have a preferred small straight tail or a small corkscrew button tail, some bulldogs have such a small tail that it just looks like a tuff of hair. Bulldogs really don't have that droopy of jowls not compared to mastiffs. They do not have pointy ears though, bulldogs are suppose to have rose ears. I really would have to see a pic of the pup to determine what you are really getting cause you are either getting an APBT or you are getting a really poorly bred bulldog. Bulldog puppies are short and they are pudgy, but that is just baby fat, they lose that and when they grow they gain a pear shape. There ARE also two head styles in the breed, an americanized head is more of a brick shaped head, the true english head is wedge shaped. I wouldn't buy from this breeder if you don't trust them not to scam you. Call the bulldog kennel club in your area and get a referral to a few breeders instead or find a bulldog rescue.

its a bulldog.... bulldogs dont have long tails, and if it has short legs, its not a pit. it will get droopy jowls when it is older

it could be a mix between a french bulldog and an American bulldog,as American bulldogs faces are not smushed in and their faces are not droopy.

what do the Legitimate KC registration papers say?#Bulldogs (English) do have tails, but they are not carried long or low. The standard states:"The tail, termed the “stern” should be set on low, jut out rather straight, then turn downwards. It should be round , smooth and devoid of fringe or coarse hair. It should be moderate in length- rather short than long- thick at the root and tapering quickly to a fine point. It should have a downward carriage (not having a decided upward curve at the end), and the dog should not be able to raise it over it’s back."

It depends on what type of bull dog there are several types, an Old English Bull dog which is a huge very stocky dog, an English Bulldog which looks similar but much smaller and as a puppy will be very wrinkly like a Sharpei, a French bulldog that is a small dog with pointy ears and an American Bulldog which is mistaken for a pitbull all the time because they do look similar.Your best bet is to research bulldogs and pitbulls to know if what you are looking at is what you're being sold. The droopy jowls develop as the dog gets older and isn't that prevalent as a puppy.

Dogs aren't born with no tail. It was cropped. (Cut off) What kind of bulldog do you want? An English Bulldog is the type with the droopy jowls, short and stout with the mushed in faces. A french bulldog is similar with pointy ears. An American Bulldog is often mistaken as a pitbull by people who don't know any better. Can you post a pic of the pup?

Hard to tell with no picture. But I believe bulldogs also have "no tails".Don't know very much about Bulldogs so it's hard to give you a solid answer.I do know that if you were buying from a reputable breeder, you wouldn't have to ask this question.

I don't want to get scammed. I want a bulldog. The breeder who I may buy from has a puppy that I really like. But, the puppy has no tail. They told me it was born that way. Also, it doesn't have droopy jowls. It's face has a short snout and little pointy ears. It has very short legs and is very husky. Does this sound like a bulldog, or a pitbull, or something else?
