    • GSD's come in two main lines. One is the working line. The dogs are supposed to be direct descendents from the original four German Shepherds that were wolf hybrids. They tend to be extremely pray driven, quick, intelligent, dominate, strong willed and work oriented. These dogs need to have a job. The second line is the show class. These dogs have a sever angle in there spine making the hind legs appear shorter than the front. They tend to be less dominate and of sounder temperament according to certain studies. However they do tend to have more medical issues then the sounder bodied working class. These are the only two classes of GSD's. The long coat, white, black and tri colored versions are all genetic mutations of the same dog. Good luck in choosing the GSD that is right for you :)

    • Depends on what you want, personaly i dont like the exagerated show types that have realy sloping backs and weak hocks that seem common place in some countires. However i have hurd of the wroking type being too much for pet owners to handle and some with dodgy temperments.Id like a middle of the road type, with a gently sloping croup and strong hocks like this http://siegerhof.com/_borders/Bodo-Germany.jpghttp://www.vonpetworld.com/images/German-Shepherd/Nikita/German-Shepherd-Nikita-313.jpgnot like thishttp://www.flickr.com/photos/b52starr/4391391266/http://germansheperds.files.wordpress.com/2007/10/german-sheperd-show-dog.jpgbut whatever type you prefur needs full health testing forHip Dysplasia SchemeElbow DysplasiaEye TestingHaemophilia testing for malesYour best bet is to contact a few breeders and go have a look at there dogs and see who you like.

    • Do you mean which line of dog? The German Shepherd is one breed of dog with different lines incorporated into that: Working, show, American, German, English, White, etc..I have a long coated GSD from German working lines. She's a large boned dog with a straight back. You need to do some research on the different lines. Personally I would NEVER own one of these dogs from show lines be it American/German/English you name it. I prefer dogs from the working lines however these dog also tend to have a much higher activity level, higher prey drive, and can be all around much more difficult to own. I paid $1500 for mine with a limited registration from the AKC. They range from about $1200 to over $2000 depending on the breeder and the dog. Be very careful when choosing a breeder. There are SO many poor breeders out there and you don't want a dog from them. Do some more research on the breed and the different lines. Good luck :]
