What must be the characteristics of a pure bred female yorkshire terrier puppy?

I'm planning to buy a female yorkshire terrier. I want to know what are the characteristics of a pure bred yorkie aside from having papers. I want to have the most outstanding yorkie. Thanks. <img src="https://dogencyclopedia.net/FRAMeWORK/wcf/images/smilies/smile.png" alt=":)" />

    • Yorkies are Terriers, which a lot of people tend to forget. :) Terriers are spunky, tenacious, friendly, high-energy and generally very stubborn dogs. They most certainly have feisty little personalities. That said, when you mean you want to have the most outstanding Yorkie, do you mean you're interested in conformation showing? Here's the breed standard, if you're interested in having a peek at it:http://www.akc.org/breeds/yorkshire_terrier/index.cfmWhether you're seeking a show puppy or a pet puppy, it's very important to buy from a reputable, responsible breeder. Visit the national breed club for a list of breeders. I've included the link below.Good luck!

    • Look up the breed standard. Make sure the parents fit the description as well. Puppies mostly resemble their parents, sometimes you get a "throwback", which is when a puppy looks like some older/foundation lines.Things you want to avoid are what is stated as NOT in the breed standard or a disqualification. There are also faults but every dog has faults. That's why different dogs win different shows. The judge decides what is more important in the way the dog is put together.Chest and Legs - A bright, rich tan, not extending above the elbow on the forelegs nor above the stifle on the hind legs.Weight - Must not exceed seven pounds.Disqualifications:Any solid color or combination of colors other than blue and tan as described above. Any white markings other than a small white spot on the forechest that does not exceed 1 inch at its longest dimension. Tan color should not extend down on back of neck. From AKC website:Yorkshire Terriers, affectionately known as "Yorkies," offer big personalities in a small package. Though members of the Toy Group, they are terriers by nature and are brave, determined, investigative and energetic. They have long, luxurious blue and tan coats. The dog's high head carriage and confident manner should give the appearance of vigor and self-importance.The nose is black. Eyes are medium in size and not too prominent; dark in color. Eye rims are dark. Ears are small, V-shaped, carried erect and set not too far apart.BodyWell proportioned and very compact. The back is rather short, the back line level, with height at shoulder the same as at the rump.Coat Quality, texture and quantity of coat are of prime importance. Hair is glossy, fine and silky in texture. Coat on the body is moderately long and perfectly straight (not wavy). It may be trimmed to floor length to give ease of movement and a neater appearance, if desired. The fall on the head is long, tied with one bow in center of head or parted in the middle and tied with two bows. Hair on muzzle is very long. Hair should be trimmed short on tips of ears and may be trimmed on feet to give them a neat appearance.Colors Puppies are born black and tan and are normally darker in body color, showing an intermingling of black hair in the tan until they are matured. Color of hair on body and richness of tan on head and legs are of prime importance in adult dogs, to which the following color requirements apply: Blue: Is a dark steel-blue, not a silver-blue and not mingled with fawn, bronzy or black hairs. Tan: All tan hair is darker at the roots than in the middle, shading to still lighter tan at the tips. There should be no sooty or black hair intermingled with any of the tan.

    • More important is choosing an outstanding breeder. A great breeder will have the best dogs. Great breeders will grill you HARD about what kind of home their puppy is going to. They will have done necessary vet testing before breeding. They will require contracts to be signed that include a health guarantee. In my opinion all good breeders should be willing to take their dogs back at any time for any reason and find a new home for them to ensure their puppies never end up in a shelter. Look at my website to get an idea what a good breeder's contract looks like. I have a copy of the contract I use there on the puppy page and also a copy of the questionnaire I use to start the process of qualifying my new homes. Good breeders should also have references you can talk to PERSONALLY not some "testimonial" on their website. Real people. You will get the dog you want by finding an expert in the breed that can guide you and match a puppy with a temperament that complements your personality and lifestyle.

    • I have a yorkie and he is the best thing in the world! I got him in Buffalo, KY from these wonderful ladies who breed for a living. They are so sweet and informed. Here is there website if you would like to ask them questions they wont mind.http://www.toybreedpuppies.4t.com/index.htmlAlso just do a quick google search for what you're looking for. Good Luck.

    • YT are ****NOT***** Terriers!!!! They are TOYS!If you want a QUALITY purebred registered dog,you buy from a reputable breeder!!!If you don't know squat about the BREED STANDARD,you take an experienced adult w/you! You shut up & listen to them tell you why "this" pup is better than "that" one....headpiece,bite,topline running gear coat, etc.
