    • Because these days Afghans aren't as popular as they once were. don't own one but I know someone who does.As for where to buy one - the only acceptable place - a good breeder. Afghans are gorgeous, but I'm just not up to the coat care and I wouldn't dream of shaving one down.

    • As a former assistant dog obedience trainer, we have had only 1 Afghan in all the classes. They are beautiful, elegant dogs but if you're interested in an obedient dog, they're not for you. The puppy we had did well in puppy classes, but as the article stated, once they start running you'd better have your motorcycle up and running. They have no recalls at all.

    • They can be a handful with a strong prey drive & can be hard to teach a reliable recall to which has left many thinking they are dumb which they are not at all. they can be a little aloof & almost cat like in some ways too.I think they are a very loyal regal old breed & would love to see them out & about more often than just at dog shows & hound clubs.

    • They are wonderful, sweet dogs, but need lots of room. They were bred to hunt gazelles by chasing them. You would have to provide lots of exercise if you want an Afghan Hound. Maybe daily bike rides with the dog running alongside?

    • I have one! They're a wonderful breed to own if you're up for the commitment. If you're looking for a potential Afghan talk to owners/breeders at a dog show or check out afghansonline.com. There's quite a few reasons why you don't see them around very much anymore. The big reason being that not as many people are breeding and those that do only breed every few years usually.
