My sister-in-laws little white dog chews its paws so its white fur is red from the blood and its mouth is covered in blood. She also scratches her neck raw. The vet doesn't seem to know what to do about it either.

This is most likely allergiesgo to another vet, the vet you went to doesn't know what he/she is talking about.The vet should have had some suggestions to why the dog itches.
some dogs can have ocd, obsessive compulsive disorder and do that maybe the dog has that or maybe its a virus with an itch or something try medication or one of those lamp shade collars
It sounds like an allergy to me. Has your vet tried benadryl? They make a liquid benadryl that can be applied directly to the sore, and it might make the itch go away. Maybe you should seek a different vet because obviously something is wrong, and if the one can't figure it out, maybe another can.Good luck.
whoa! thats crazy, I have a pit, that would chew on her tail, till it bled, we just keep yelling at her, and the vet said that it's because she has dry skin, and so we use special shampoo all over her, when we bath her, and she doesn't do it as much, ( hypoallergenic shampoo)
the vet doesnt know, she needs to get a new vet! The symptoms you are describing most likely a food allergy, try illiminating food from her diet (mostly the processed stuff) and see if she improves. It could also be a reaction to a plant called "Wandering Dew", my dog had a pretty bad reaction to that recently
It itches so they scratch it and hurt themselves, buy some of that no chew spray, it makes the paws taste horrible and they stop the chewing, if that doesn't work put on the collar until it fully heals, then it is likely they will forget about the chewing and leave it alone.
