    • in conformation shows yes there are other shows where they are not required to be a purebred i dont know about ireland but the AKC has a special registration for mutts where they are just required to be altered to be registered to compete in events other than conformation.

    • Types of Conformation Dog Shows There are three types of conformation dog shows: All-breed shows offer competitions for over 150 breeds and varieties of dogs recognized by the AKC. All-breed shows are the type often shown on television Specialty shows are restricted to dogs of a specific breed or to varieties of one breed. For example, the Bulldog Club of America Specialty is for Bulldogs only, but the Poodle Club of America's specialty show includes the three varieties of the Poodle - Standard, Miniature and Toy.Group shows are limited to dogs belonging to one of the seven groups. For example, the Potomac Hound Group show features only breeds belonging to the Hound group. Which Dogs May ParticipateTo be eligible to compete, a dog must:be individually registered with the American Kennel Clubbe 6 months of age or olderbe a breed for which classes are offered at a showmeet any eligibility requirements in the written standard for its breedSpayed or neutered dogs are not eligible to compete in conformation classes at a dog show, because the purpose of a dog show is to evaluate breeding stock. For mixed breeds:there is a dog show for mixed breeds called nuts for mutts dog annual dog show but im thinking it's only in the states not sure..( link in sources )

    • Most kennel clubs require that the dog be registered, intact and a purebred in order to compete in conformation. However, many kennel clubs are now allowing mixed breed pets to compete in performance events like agility and obedience.

    • If you are referring to conformation shows for prizes and money, YES you do have to have a purebred dog. Now there are some fun shows at local carnivals and fairs that allow any dog to enter mixed and purebred dog alike. But the only thing you usually win is a certificate stating the counties Prettiest dog, or best trained. No real prizes or money.

    • in Kennel Club conformation show yes it must be a registered purebred, but you can do fun companion shows, these are show that are normal for charity with purebred classes and fun classes for any dog. You can compete in other dog activities such as agility or obedience, just contact the irish KC for more info.

    • Obviously if you're going for best in breed, you can't. You can always contact them beforehand, I don't see why a mutt won't be as good as the next dog in agility or whatever you want him to go for. :P

    • Crufts will not allow a cross breed to show with purebreds, but im sure they hold one for cross dogs, like for temperament, looks and gait. This might be in my area only though. You wont be able to go to a kennel club show with a cross, but im sure they make one for mongrels and crosses. Good luck :D
