What's the process of adopting a dog from a shelter in the Uk?

I'm adopting a puppy from a shelter/dogs home and I just wanted to know how to do it. Like, do I have to visit the shelter more than once and do I need my home examining to make sure ita suitable. Could you take me through the whole thing? Thanks x

1. choose a dog2. have a home check3. usually give a "donation" to the shelter4.wait for paperwork5.Take the dog6. maybe have them see how your doing

You choose the dog, and they will tell you wether you need to visit it a few times so that it learns to trust you. Most of the good shelters, like the dogs trust, will do a home visit before you get a dog.
