How smart are rats compared to other species of domestic animals?

How do rats measure up as far as intelligence goes, compared to dogs, horses, cats, mice, pigs, etc...I own two rats by the way, so no endorsing of the animal is necessary. But thanks anyways!

Not as smart as dogs, cats and pigs... i think just as smart as mice.Compared to some of my co-workers, they are 100 times smarter.

dogs abd cats are much smarter, but rats are MUCH MUCH MUCH smarter than mice gerbils ect.

Much less than pigs but then pigs are smarter than just about anythingGreater than almost all other rodents, I think ferrets maybe smarter, but rats are definitely smarter than mice hamsters and gerbils Depending on how you measure intelligence they may or may not be smarter than cats, most animal IQ tests involve learning tricks, on those tests rats score higher that cats, but lots of people say those tests aren't accurate measures of cat intelligence.As for dogs it depends on the breed, some are smarter than others, the afghan hound is the lowest the poodle is the highest, I know I used to know where rats fell on the scale, but all I remember now is that they are smarter than afghans and dumber that poodles

i have a rat named Peekabou and she is very intellegent and surprisingly clean. She can take care of herself but has no problem when it comes to human interaction. Shes a really good pet and I think she is better than any of my other animals. She was cheap to buy, but doesnt get along with other species of animals or new rats that she wasnt raised with. Females are nicer than Males.

ive had all those animals in times past .. rats are smarter than anything when it comes to reasoning out how to get food without prior conditioning ... thats my opinion ...

rats are fairly smart, I know someone who trained their rat to crawl through a wall with a string so that its owner could thread wires through certain areas to conect his computer up to something.

I was going to take issue with the term"domestic" in reference to rats, but certainly rats have served humanity well if that is the deffinition .And they make sweet , delightful, smart pocket pets. I would suggest neutering a male for longevity, as they are prone to tumors otherwise.They will walk on leashes, and ride on shoulders and roll in their plastic travel ball.A hollow, transparent plastic ball like the Flaming Lips use..The rat inside can run all over the house without being a nuisance. These balls come in bright colors and are about the size of a basket ball.Great pets.
