Does a bird of prey coming into a small village into a garden attack people?

There's a bird like a kestrel that's been coming into the garden each day. When we feed the garden birds is it liable to attack people or small Dogs. Will it be wild? Or will it belong to someone?

    • It is an urban myth, they call it Graagoclaw, no one has ever seen it, but it is said to steal the first born of every household at the age of 7, and only return their toenails! Be very wary of this beast and do not try to over power it.

    • Rarely. Larger raptors have been reported to harm small pets, like cats, or poultry, but they generally don't bother humans, unless you are in its territory and very close to a nest with young. You are in the UK, so by 'Kestrel' you are likely referring to a Common or Eurasian Kestrel, which weighs in around 9 ounces...about half a pound. Not only are these birds too small to hurt you or your pets, they will avoid you and your pets. Their diet consists of small rodents, songbirds, and occasionally small reptiles.Edit: @Goldy, before you use all of your duplicate accounts to give yourself a thumbs up on your answer, please educate yourself on falconry before giving definitive answers. The FACT is, there are quite a few falconers that use a method of training their birds called "wild hacking" in which their birds DO, in fact, fly around wildly.

    • Absolutely no way. I work with birds of prey and, if they were scared, they will always try to fly away rather than attack. If they are in an open space they will absolutely not attack you as they are relatively shy so will fly away. Unless you are too close to their nest, in which case they may threaten you (which more often than not won't give you any injuries). You should be honoured to have such a beautiful bird in your garden. Don't be afraid of it.

    • The Kestrel is coming to your garden for the small birds you are feeding, which are part of it's prey . they also eat small rodents , mice etc along with worms and other insects that will be in your garden, they will not attack you or your Dogs they are not it's prey, The bird is wild. owned by no one ,a Falconer would not allow their birds to fly wild like that, so you and your animals have nothing to fear.Wildlife Warden

    • Raptors will want to carry away it's kill, either to eat in peace or take to share with a family. It will kill only those things it is capable of carrying, so humans are out. Small dogs or cats could be taken, but only by a very large raptor, Eagle, Large owl etc. I've seen an eagle actually drop a rabbit that was a little too big, but landed immediately to try again. It is most likely a wild bird.
