We live in Mexico and share a beach hillside with a local who has a herd of 100+ free roaming sheep. While we were on holiday our 3 boxer dogs started to kill the sheep! We have been advised by the other local sheep owners that we should buy a sheep & keep it in the garden in a pen so the dogs become accustomed to it & will loose their desire to kill.Or Dog Muzzels? Or shock collars? Our dogs play on the beach & swim in the sea. We have no problems with them with children or adults.

    • Well when the sheep arnt out there then go out. Or ask them if they could keep there sheep in a pen or something while your dogs paly in the water. And ya having a sheep around is good too so thye get used to it.

    • It is possible to train your dogs not to kill sheep and it may take the shock from a shock collar if they are hard headed. It would be important for you to always make them associate sheep with something bad that can happen to them.

    • No.I bred working dogs.Once they kill, they dont stop no matter how much you shock them with a collar, hit them, train them blah blah blah. They will just wait til you leave and do it again.Dont buy a sheep, you will just be taunting them.Dogs like hunting in a pack too. Don't let your dogs near sheep or you will just be asking for them to kill.

    • Any dog can be rehabilitated. First I would walk them on a lead with a training collar and walk them around the sheep(with the owners permission) and when they get close and they lunge for the sheep, correct them with the training collar and keep walking. Keep this up till the dog is watching you instead of the sheep. When they are focused on you and not the sheep, do it some more until they get the idea. Hope this helps, Dusty

    • I've never heard of that happening. You can try it, but once a dog starts killing livestock usually they don't stop, and the farmer is within his rights to shoot the animals that are destroying his. As owner I hope you made restitution for the dead animals to the farmer. Muzzles can help a lotto curb the damage, but if they get them off it still doesn't stop the behavior.
