What's the difference between Boxer dogs and Airedale Terriers?

Has anyone owned both breeds. What's similiar about them, and what's different? Does one breed tend to be more dominant, protective, or hyper? How would you compare these two breeds?

    • They are completely different breeds. The previous answer is correct: Airedales have very strong personalities and are definitely not for the first time owner. You need to get an overview of dog breeds and, if possible, talk to people who own those dogs.#If there is a dog park in your area, go there, watch the dogs, and if you see one you like, ask the dog's owner about it. #Go to the library and take out books about dog breeds. You should be able to find books that have pictures and descriptions of a lot breeds. #Do a Google search for "dog breeds" and see what you find. You might try the Westminster Kennel Club or American Kennel Club websites.#Call or visit dog rescue organizations. For instance, in Southern California, there is a rescue group for every breed of dog, such as Doberman Rescue, Boxer Rescue, German Shepherd Rescue....Don't believe what pet stores tell you. Anyone trying to sell you a dog is goin g to tell you what you want to hear, not what may be the absolute truth. And, most important, DO NOT choose a dog solely because you like the way it looks. Have you seen "Eddie," the dog on the show "Frasier"? He is an adorable wire-haired Jack Russell Terrier... but Jack Russells are like energizer bunnies.. they go go go 24 hours a day and will bounce off the walls without something to do. Dobermans are supposed to be dangerous killers but most of them are calm, loving family dogs. A lot of kids wanted Dalmations after they saw the movie, but Dalmations are usually pretty cranky and don't like to be handled by children. And after the Beethoven movies, everybodywanted a St. Bernard.. but they are not easy dogs to get along with.So take your time and make sure you get the right breed for you and everybody else in your household. And if you are not going to treat the dog like a member of the family, or if you're going to tie him up, and not let him sleep indoors -- DON'T GET A DOG.

    • Those are two VERY different breeds, and its not just because they don't look the same. Here is some good research on the breeds. Read about them, write down all the pros and cons that you may have about each breed as you read about them, compare how many pros and cons that you've written about them, and pick the one that has more pros than cons. :0)Boxerhttp://www.yourpurebredpuppy.com/reviews/boxers.htmlhttp://www.akc.org/breeds/boxer/index.cfmhttp://www.dogbreedinfo.com/boxer.htmhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boxer_(dog)Airedalehttp://www.yourpurebredpuppy.com/reviews/airedales.htmlhttp://www.akc.org/breeds/airedale_terrier/index.cfmhttp://en.wikipedia.org/?title=Airedale_Terrierhttp://www.dogbreedinfo.com/airedale.htm

    • I have a boxer and she is definitely stubborn, not aggressive but very determined to get her own way. She is pretty protective of strangers at our house, but is very good on walks or out. Boxers are supposed to be fairly hyper, but although she loves to run and play she calms down very easily. She is also very sensitive. This is my second boxer and both were the same, they need to feel loved and don't like being corrected.I've never owned an Airedale but at least I can share the boxer side.
