    • your going to have get on a to a registry site, like AKC to see if you can find a breeder thats in a near by state.BTW people are going to bite your head off saying you need to adopt...*edit*avoid you puppy being shiped, my parents a long time ago bought a german shorthaired pointer stud pup(used to breed AKC GSPs), had it shipped, and they go a skidish GSPs male, but it wasn't the quality pup they looked at before.

    • You will probably have to have your new puppy shipped to you. Here is the link to the Afghan Hound Club of America. There is information about the breed, breeder referrals, newcomer area, and much more. http://clubs.akc.org/ahca/

    • Find an online breeder but do check out all their references and ask for their lisence and check with the Kennel Clubs to make sure that they have a good background. Most of them will fly the pups. Make sure they get a lisenced vet checkup to prove that the puppy is healthy veterinarian inspected and also get the puppy microchipped at the same time to prove that they didn't switch puppies on you. That has been known to happen. They show you one pic and you get another animal that wasn't so healthy even after the vet checkup because they wait until the pup is checked out and then send the sick ones. Also make sure that they are NOT a puppy mill breeder. If you do all your homework on who they are you can get some pretty good puppies from other states.PS: Use Continental Airlines for shipping. They are the only airlines that has made their cargo areas suitable for pets to travel in and there is air or heat for them while traveling.

    • 1. Keep an eye on your local shelters. Fill out an application, talk to them about what you're looking for, and wait.2. Find a responsible breeder. You might have to travel out of state, maybe many states away to get your puppy. Find a good Afghan hound message board and ask the dog owners where they got their owners, breeders they recommend. When talking to breeders on the phone or in email ask about what they do to prove their dogs are worthy to breed (showing, training, temperment tests), ask about what health checks they do, ask how they raise the puppies, when you go to visit ask to see the dog's parents!3. Check out one of these Afghan Hound rescue groups!!: http://www.ahroma.org/http://www.afghanhound.net/http://www.ahrco.org/http://www.barkbytes.com/rescue/afghan.htm

    • How about this guy? He is in OK, but he is a very nice dog that needs a second chance. Just look at that beautiful color! Plus, his adoption fee is LOW for the breed, even if you would have to drive to get him.http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/17238628

    • If your interested in getting an Afghan then the first place you should look is the breed club website http://clubs.akc.org/ahca/. In addition to contacting their breeder referral corespondent be sure to check out their list of breed mentors and regional clubs. http://afghansonline.com/front.htm is another great place to check out; It's a breed specific advertising site for breeders & owners to advertise upcoming breedings, current litters, recent wins, memorials, and even afghan art. Also Afghans do not need to be brushed everyday, in fact if you want to grow the long beautiful show coat then you should not brush everyday. Brushing a dry or dirty coat causes it to break. Show dogs are only brushed after their bath when they are wet or during touch ups before entering the ring after ample conditioning spray is applied. My girl gets bathed once a week with no brushing between baths. It's actually not that hard to groom an afghan you just have to make sure that you keep up with it.
