    • Don't go by looks, go by compatibility. As for barking, this all depends on training and stimulation. There's the Shih Tzu, Lhasa Apso, Japanese Chin, Chihuahua, Cavalier Spaniel, Yorkshire Terrier, Beagle, Jack Russell Terrier, West Highland White Terrier, Boston Terrier, Toy Poodle, Miniature Poodle, Drever, Dachshund, Pekingese, Pomeranian, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Scottish Terrier, Rat Terrier, Pug, Shiba Inu, Basenji, Cairn Terrier, French Bulldog, Italian Greyhound, Norfolk Terrier, Norwich Terrier, Welsh Corgi, Tibetan Spaniel, Chinese Crested Hairless, Bolognese, Maltese, Bichon Frise, Papillon, Shetland Sheepdog, Silky Terrier, Skye Terrier, Affenpinscher, Miniature Pincher and shelter mutts. Again, do your research; not all small breeds are for everyone. Despite their size, many require a lot of exercise, such as the Jack Russell Terrier. There is now a TON of homeless small dogs -- not all of them are lucky to find new homes and thus many are euthanized -- thanks to the backyard breeders and puppymillers making a quick buck out of them, and for the people who *gasp* are surprised that they require work and aren't fashion accessories. Check here for them:http://www.dogsindanger.comhttp://www.petfinder.orghttp://www.petharbor.comhttp://www.1-800-pet-rescue.comDo a Google on "-insert breed name here- club" (for example, Yorkshire Terrier Club of America/Canada/UK) for further breed info, breed rescue and RESPONSIBLE breeder referrals. If you're interested in adopting a dog but live too far away from it, there is often the option of having a dog transported to you/closer to you. Google "dog rescue transportation."

    • It depends on your definition of little. If your comparing a Corgie to a great dame I would say it was little. All the toy breeds will stay small. I would also consider the terrier group and any miniatures. You can get a general idea about how big your dog will be but you never really know, there is a wide range even within breeds. Do some research about the breeds that you like, go the the AKC website and see what there are.
